Positive Impact Events – Committments from the Event Industry for the Sustainable Development Goals

About Makeover Monday

MakeoverMonday is a social data project: “Each week we post a link to a chart, and its data, and then you rework the chart. Maybe you retell the story more effectively, or find a new story in the data. We’re curious to see the different approaches you all take. Whether it’s a simple bar chart or an elaborate infographic, we encourage everyone of all skills to partake. Together we can have broader conversations about and with data.”

Starting from Jan 08, 2018, I decided to put aside one hour on Monday weekly to create some visualization and find some insights from the data.

The datasets are published each week at: MakeoverMonday Datasets.

Makeover Monday 20190916

This week’s data is a UN survey on the event industry around their commitment to sustainable development goals. The original viz cound be found here.

My Visualization

I am totally confused by the data this week, as the original survey design is kind of unclear and biasing results… So does the original viz… Anyway, so I chose the data point that are most straightforward – the substainable development goals that the respondents commit to.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • US, UK and Canada are the three top countries that the survey respondents are from and they show different focus of the sustainable development goals – the most popular goals among US respondents are Climate Action, Zero Hunger, and Clean Water & Sanitation (and they value them equally), however, for UK, CA and other countries, the respondents focus on climate change much more than the other goals;
  • Not surprisingly, more women respondents focus on gender equality than any other goals.
