Weekly Viz 2020-02-24
Housing outcomes for clients of Australian Specialist Homelessness Services
About Makeover Monday
MakeoverMonday is a social data project: “Each week we post a link to a chart, and its data, and then you rework the chart. Maybe you retell the story more effectively, or find a new story in the data. We’re curious to see the different approaches you all take. Whether it’s a simple bar chart or an elaborate infographic, we encourage everyone of all skills to partake. Together we can have broader conversations about and with data.”
Starting from Jan 08, 2018, I decided to put aside one hour on Monday weekly to create some visualization and find some insights from the data.
The datasets are published each week at: MakeoverMonday Datasets.
Makeover Monday 20200302
This week’s dataset is about the Housing outcomes for clients of Australian Specialist Homelessness Services. This is definitely a great project and seems it does helped homeless people to get private housing and largely reduced the number of rough sleepers.
My Visualization
The original viz is a Sankey Diagram in Tableau, which I always wanna have a try but did not get a chance. So, I am taking this opportunity. My viz followed this tutorial on YouTube.

Insights
- In 2017-2018, with the help of this project, we see the number of clients who were rough sleepers or couch surfers largely decreased;
- The number of clients with public/communtiy housing or even private housing increased siginificantly;
- Though the ‘unknown’ category makes me a little bit concerned…
