Benefits of Remote Work

About Makeover Monday

MakeoverMonday is a social data project: “Each week we post a link to a chart, and its data, and then you rework the chart. Maybe you retell the story more effectively, or find a new story in the data. We’re curious to see the different approaches you all take. Whether it’s a simple bar chart or an elaborate infographic, we encourage everyone of all skills to partake. Together we can have broader conversations about and with data.”

Starting from Jan 08, 2018, I decided to put aside one hour on Monday weekly to create some visualization and find some insights from the data.

The datasets are published each week at: MakeoverMonday Datasets.

I feel very connected to this week’s dataset – top benefit for remote working. Not surprisingly, the top one people voted for is the ability to have a flexible schedule. Though after almost six months’ WFH, I kind of feel like WFH sometiems means blurred boundary between work and life, and can actually make people work longer. Yet there might be another six months or even one year ahead… Btw, the original article not long has the top benefits, but top concerns from the worker and manager perspectives. Might be interesting to check out :)

My Visualization

Well, given the data only has six rows and two columns…. I spent some time finding some icons for each one of the option :)

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • Flixbility on schedule and work location are the top benefits people selected. But actually there are many overlap / correlation among the survey options – for example, a flexible schedule and no need to communte means people can spend more time with family, and work from home is definitely part of the ‘work from any location’…
