US IPOs 2019-2021

This is the first visualization of 2022 :) This week I found this Company IPOs (2019-2021) dataset on kaggle. It scraped data from stockanalytics site, inclduing US IPOs from 2019 to 2021, their IPO dates, IPO price, and current price.

My Visualization

Since this is the first one of the year, let’s make a fancy chart lol. I plot all the IPOs as dots on a circle, with the location (angle) indicating its IPO month, and dot size indicating the IPO price. Also added a bar chart with the total counts of IPOs per month.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

• Despite the pandemic, 2021 seems to be the best year for IPO – there were 1000+ IPOs in 2021, surpassing the total of 2019 and 2020 (700+);
• We also see some of the largest IPOs in 2021, measured by IPO price — there were four IPOs priced over $100, including Coinbase ($250), monday.com ($155), Nuvei ($123), Duolingo ($102);
• I did not include the current price, as it’s unfair to compare current price of a stock IPOed in 2019 vs. last year, with the noises in the first months after IPO.
