% Asian American Population in Each U.S. County
This month is the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. To celebrate that, this week I visualized the % of Asian American in each US county. The data comes from 2020 US Cencus. Also please notice that, here I used the % that identified as Asian alone.
My Visualization
This visualization is pretty simple with a county level map color coded on the % of Asian American, and a table of the top 10 counties. To save some space (and make the US mainland map large enough to see), I put AK, HI, and PR maps at the lower left and right corners.
Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.
Insights
- Looking at the map, overall the Asian American population density is higher on the west coast and east coast (the area around NY);
- Among the top 10 counties with highest percentage of Asian American, three are in Hawaii, and four in California (out of which three are in the Bay Area, one in greater LA area).
