Bitcoin Price 2016-2022

Despite officially entering a bear market last week, BTC price also dropped under $20k, from its highest prices of $67k. This week, let’s look at the daily BTC price and fluctuation since 2016.

This visualization has two parts – the upper chart is a daily closing price trend, and the lower one shows the daily movement (close - open price).

Insights

  • We saw a small spike of BTC price back in end of 2017, but most of the movement happened since the end of 2020, jumping from 18k to 63k in just four months;
  • However, this does not main it is easy to 3x/4x your money with BTC – the price movement of BTC is insane as even when BTC price was climbing up in 2021, there were several times price dropped over $1000 in one day, which could cause panic;
  • BTC price reached the last peak of $67k in Nov 2021, but with the market going down, inflation going up, and incidents like LUNA coin crushed, it is now down to $20k.
