Top 100 Video Games on Metacritic

Since last week, I have been playing Persona 5 Royal on Nintendo Switch every day. It is a great and addictive game, and is by far one of the highest rated JRPG on Metacritic. This week, I pulled the top 100 rated video games on Metacritic and made a visualization.

My Visualization

This visualization plots the top 100 games along two dimensions – release year and platform. The size of the bubbles represents the rank.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

• So far among Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox, we see the highest number of top 100 games on PlayStation (36);
• Some games were released on multiple platforms, and all versions ranked in top 100, for example, GTA and Persona 5 Royal;
• I am surprised to see some games released before 2000 are still on the top 100 list – great game never outdated.
