US Search Engine Market Share Top 10
ChatGPT has continued to be a hot topic in the past three months, and the news of Bing is going to integrate with ChatGPT has made people think if this will impact Google’s search engine market share. So this week, I found the search engine market share since 2009 from statcounter and made a visualization.
My Visualization
I made a bump chat of the top 10 search engines from 2009 to date, with the most recent top 5 engines labeled. You can also hover on the dots to see the actual market share.
Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.
Insights
- Google has been the dominating search engine since 2009 with no doubt, and its market share actually gradually went up further from ~79% to ~88%;
- Bing and Yahoo! have been competing for the 2nd and 3rd places for a long time, but seems like Bing has won the competition since 2016;
- The competition in the 4th to 10th places is much more fierce. One search engine that popped up recently is Duck Duck Go, featuring more privacy protection.
