US Top 10 Metro Office Occupancy Rate
The pandemic has changeed the way people work significantly. The most obivous change is that we have a larger population working from home compared to pre-covid. However, recently we have also seen more and more companies requiring return to office. According to Bloomberg, in end of Jan this year, US offices reaches 50% occupancy for the first time since pandemic hit. This week, I visualized the office occupancy rate data by Kastle Systems, who provided the data points to Bloomberg. You can find more about their methodlogy here.

Insights
- Among the top 10 metro, we see the three in Texas (Austin, Houston and Dallas) show the highest office occupancy rates, while the two in California (San Jose and San Francisco) and New York Metro show the lowest office occupancy rates. This could be related to industry, culture, and many other factors;
- The variance of occupancy rate is very high within a week, and even for Austin, the metro with overall highest occupancy rate, on the lowest occupied day of week (Friday), the occupancy rate is lower than 50%;
- But it worth noticing that this is just a weekly snapshot from the week 2023/02/23 to 2023/03/01, so it could be baised by factors like weather as well.
