Attitudes Towards AI

The astonishing performance of ChatGPT has been the hottest topic in tech (and even in daily life) these days. Therefore, this week, I decided to make a visualization from a dataset around people’s attitude towards AI. It is very interesting that I actually find this report (Pew Research Center Surveys on AI) by asking ChatGPT :)

My Visualization

This visualization shows % adults answered ‘very or somewhat concerned’ with each potential AI application by different demographics (gender, age, education, etc.).

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • Generally speaking, people are more concerned with applications that involves more emotions or have larger impact to human life;
  • Between gender groups, we see women are more concerned with AI than men on all the applications; Similarly, among different age groups, younger people seem to accept the idea of AI better than older adults;
  • It is interesting that people with higher education are less confortable with AI ‘know people’s thoughts and behaviors’ or ‘make important life decisions for people’, while adults with lower education are more concerned with AI working on standard procedures – there could be some correlation with their occupations.
