Favorite Social Media among US Teens

This week, I found this Teens, Social Median and Technology 2022 report by Pew Research Center. It surveyed US teens between 13 to 17 about their usage of 10 most popular social media apps/sites. This report has lots of interesting data points and visualizations. And this week, I will be focusing on the one that highlights % teens ever used each social median by different demographics groups.

This visualization is a simpleline chart grouped by demographics. I put the social media labels on the ‘Total’ column so it’s easier to read.

Insights

• YouTube is by far the most commonly used social media among US teens – over 90% teens across all the groups have used it, much higher than the second place;
• TikTok has surpassed many other competitiors and became the second popular social media. Comparing across different demographics, it’s especially popular among girls, black teens, and lower income teens;
• Only ~30% of US teens have used Facebook in 2022, fell to the 5th place on the list.
