Wage and Salary Employment Change 2021-31
This week, I came across this A Look at Projected Employment in Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services, 2021‒31 on US Bureau of Labor Statistics website. It has some very insightful data points in how the employment is projected to increase in the major industry sectors in the next 10 years, as well as highlighting some specific industires. My visualization will be focusing on the industry sector wise growth projection, but please check out the complete report if you are interested in this topic :)
My Visualization
This visualization has two parts – a side by side bar chart to show the employment number in 2021 and 2031 (projected) by each industry sector, and the % change bar chart.
Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.
Insights
- Professional and Business Services is by far the largest industry sector by employment number, followed by Healthcare and Social Assistance. Their gap will decrease to only 0.1M in 2031 from 1.1M in 2021, potentially due to population aging;
- The industry that is projected to see the highest % increase in the next 10 years is Leisure and Hospitality, and it will move up from the 5th place to the 4th place, due to the shrink in Retail trade industry by 2.2%.
