Cruise Passengers 2009-2027
I have seen lots of advertisements for cruise tours recently and would like to try it sometime. However, Cruise might be one of the industries that was hit the worst by the pandemic, with several news of covid outbreaks on the cruise. This week, I am visualizing this worldwide cruise passengers data from 2009 to 2022, with a forecast to 2027. It shows how the industry has bounced back and is projected to grow quickly in the next 5 years.

This visualization is a simple bar chart with color coding on the passenger numbers.

Insights
- Prior to the pandemic, worldwide cruise passengers were growing ~1 million every year to 29.7m in 2019;
- However, due to the pandemic, many cities had lockdown and many tourists chose not to take cruises due to various COVID outbreaks on cruises. This decreased annual passengers to only ~5M in 2020 and 2021;
- But in 2023, passengers bounced back to 31.5M, slightly higher than 2019, and is projected to again grow ~1M from 2024.
