Airline Domestic Market Share
The dataset I am visualizing this week is the airline domestic market share from Aug 2022 to July 2023, coming from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. It clearly shows the largest airlines in the US and how their market share compares to each other.
My Visualization
This visualization is a bar chart, but I presented the top four airlines in their own bars, while grouped the rest into two bars, to show the dominant places of the top four airlines.
Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.
Insights
- Market share of the top four airlines (Delta, America, Southwest and United) is relatively close to each other, and adding up to two-thirds of the overall domestic market share in the US;
- On the other hand, the airlines in the 5th to 7th place only add up to 16.9% of the market share, barely matching the 3rd place (Southwest); And the remaining other airline share 15.4% of the market, lower than the market share of United.
