ChatGPT Google Search Trend

ChatGPT was launched on 11/30/2022, almost one year from now. There has been many iterations, including the launch of ChatGPT Plus, GPT-4, and the most recent exciting announcement of GPTs. This week, I looked into the Google search interest of ‘chatgpt’ and map it to the major ChatGPT milestones.

My Visualization

The visualization simply shows the Google search interest over time. Here, according to Google, Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart for the given region and time. A value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular. A score of 0 means there was not enough data for this term.

  • ChatGPT Google search grew very fast after the initial release in Nov 2022 but lowered very soon after one month;
  • However, the luanch of chatGPT Plus and GPT-4 in early 2023 led to the highest search interest given the great improvements;
  • ChatGPT search gradually went down in the next 6 months, but started to increase again since Sept 2023 with new capabilities and the exicting Dev Day announcements. It is now ~80% search interest compared to its peak time in April 2023.
