Americans’ New Year Resolutions

It’s already 2024, and some people have made their new year’s resolutions. YouGov did a survey asking Americans about their 2024 New Year resolution, and about one-third (34%) of the US adults said they will make some New Year’s resolution. My visualization this week looks at the specific resolutions people make by their age groups.

My Visualization

This visualization sorts the resolutions based on the overall popularity. Different colors represent different age groups of the respondents.

Insights

  • Generally speaking, younger people are more likely to make new year resolutions than older groups, probably because younger people tend to be more ambitious;
  • ‘Saving more money’ is the overall most selected goal – while it is the most popular option among 18-29 years old group, it is not as popular among 65 years+ group (makes a lot of sense). Older people focus more on golas related to improving their health situation.
