I have been exploring hotel options for vacations and came across the hotel brand popularity survey from YouGov. It shows how many people with a positive opinion of each hotel brand. It also has the breakdown by generations and gender. It’s interesting to see some of the differences.

My Visualization

The visualization is made with gantt plot in a 2*2 grid in Tableau, and the color represents the degree of each brand’s popularity.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • Among all US adults, Marriott is the most popular hotel brand, but it is not the case across all the generations;
  • For Millennials, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is the most popular one, with a 68% popularity rate, far surpassing other brands. But it is much less favored in older generations;
  • The only brand that has over 60% across all generations is Holiday Inn.
