Median Weekly Earnings 24Q1

This week I am coming back to The Economics Daily from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The dataset I am looking at is the median weekly earnings in 24Q1 by race and gender.

My Visualization

The visualization is a dual-axis chart with one gantt chart that plots the delta between men and women wages, and one dot plot showing the wages from total, men, and women.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • Across all the races, we see men’s median weekly wage to be higher than women’s;
  • However, the difference between men and women is lower for the groups with lower overall median wages (Black or African American, Hispanic and Latino), while it is larger for Asian and White.
