Holiday Sales Spend

Black Friday is coming! Therefore, this week I decided to visualize a dataset related to holiday sales. I found a survey on YouGov asking “Do you expect to spend any money during Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales this year?” It also shows the responses breakdown by multiple demographic groups. It is interesting to see the different spending habits across age, gender, and race groups.

My Visualization

I visualized it in a simple bar chart, showing the responses breakdown by different respondent groups.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • Generally speaking, about half of the respondents (US adults) said they would at least spend some money during Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales this year;
  • Across age groups, younger respondents seem to have much higher interests in holiday sales, while less than 10% of the respondents above 45 years old said they would spent a lot during holiday sales;
  • More male respondents said they would spend a lot during the holiday sales, but the total percentage of ‘yes, a lot’ and ‘yes, a little’ is consistent between male and female;
  • Different races also seem to have a different likelihood of spending money during the holiday sales.
