How Important Religion Is to People
The dataset I am visualizing this week originated from Our World In Data’s daily spotlight on 2/5. It shows the survey response data on “how important religion is to people in life” over time and in different countries. You can see where each country started and their different directions over time.
My Visualization
This visualization is a line chart showing the trend between 1993 and 2022. I use similar colors for countries on the same continent.
Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.
Insights
- Nigeria is the country with the highest percentage of people who responded religion is very important or rather important in their lives, and the percentage increased further to 99% in 2022;
- On the other side, China and Japan show the lowest percentage of people who viewed religion as important;
- We see a declining trend in several English-speaking countries, including the United States (79%>61%), Canada (61%>35%), and the United Kingdom (45%>33%).
