BLS Employment Projections

BLS’s “The Economics Daily” column posted its employment projections of selected occupations suspectible to potential AI impacts between 2023 to 2033. It looked at occupations including Architecture & Engineering Occupations, Business & Financial Operations Occupations, Computer Occupations, and Legal Occupations.

My Visualization

The visualization is a straightforward bar chart. The color is coded based on the group of occupations and the order is sorted by the projection.

Insights

  • Among the four occupation groups, computer occupations are projected to see the strongest growth of 11.7% overall – This is an industry that already started to adopt AI. BLS projected them to use AI to augment work, instead of AI replacing the jobs.
  • Three occupations under the business and financial operations occupation group (credit analysts, claims adjusters, examiners & investigators, and isurance appraisers) are projected to have negative growth – these are the occupations with standard tasks that are most likely to be replaced by AI.
