US Households Corporate Equities Allocation

US stock market has been one of the most popular financial assets. For this week’s visualization, I look at the % of U.S. households financial assets that are held in corporate equities. The data comes from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

Insights

  • The lowest allocation occurred around 1982, with only 9.50% of household financial assets in equities. This coincides with a period of high inflation and interest rates, low stock market returns, and economic uncertainty;
  • Since the financial crisis in 2008, there is a clear clear upward trend in equity allocation, suggesting growing investor confidence in the stock market.
