The dataset I am visualizing this week is the meat consumption in different regions by meat types. It demonstrates different eating habits globally.

This visualization is a heatmap based on the meat consumption – higher consumption corresponds with a deeper color.

Insights

  • Regional preferences are distinct – North America has the highest poultry and beef consumption globally, while Eastern Asia and South-eastern Asia have the highest fish and seafood consumption globally;
  • Sheep/Goat meat consumption is a niche, but important in Central and Western Asia culture.
