US Credit Score

This week, I found the annual US credit score report published by Experian. It has great insights on US credit score history and by state scores.

My Visualization

This visualization has two charts – On the top right, it has the US average FICO score from 2009 to 2024; At the bottom, it shows the state-level average FICO score in 2024.

Please note that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

• The national average FICO score has steadily risen from 689 in 2009 to 715 in 2024. 2020 saw the largest average FICO score increase from 703 to 711, probably due to the pandemic-related spending reduction.
• Upper Midwest & Northeast states show the highest average FICO score in 2024, while the Deep South states have the lowest scores.
