European Countries with the Most Immigrants
European Countries with the Most Immigrants
My visualization this week is a remake of this original visualization from Visual Capitalist. It shows the number and percentage of immigrants in European countries, along with the breakdown of immigrants born in EU vs. outside EU.
My Visualization
This visualization consists of a bar chart with immigrants, where the color represents the source of immigrants, and a line chart of the % of immigrants.
Please note that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.
Insights
- Germany has the most immigrants by count, but by the percentage, its immigrants make up only 20% of the population;
- Meanwhile, we see the highest % of immigrants from countries with small populations, such as Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Malta;
- Switzerland is an outlier – Despite a smaller population than Germany or France, it has a notably high immigrant share (31%) and relatively high volume (~2.8M immigrants);
- Eastern European countries like Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Bulgaria all show very low absolute and relative immigration, only ~3–5% of their populations.
