Pending Employment-Based Immigration Petitions

USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service) provided updated reports on Employment Based Immigration. This includes one dataset of I-140 Approvals Awaiting Visa for Alien Workers in STEM and Non-STEM Job Categories. It tells us how many people have their I-140 approved, but are still waiting for their Green Card (likely because of the limited number of Green Card available every year).

My Visualization

This visualization is a table color coded on the # of petitions, by country of birth and petition category. You can also filter on STEM/Non-STEM by clicking on the cells above.

Please notice that all the visualizations are designed for desktop view, so it is recommended to view them on a desktop device.

Insights

  • EB2 with Advanced Degree category has the highest number of pending Employment-based immigration petitions;
  • The country of birth with the highest number of pending petitions is India – It has 10x more petitions even compared to the 2nd place (China). But please note that this data does not exclude the multiple petitions by the same petitioner. Usually people will re-apply for their I-140 when they change their jobs. Given the long-waiting time for India-born immigrants, this number might be highly inflated by duplicate petitions.
